Centennial Gardens, both sides of Dick’s Creek – approx. 30 minutes
The exact location of the new Laura Secord Trail Bridge (Iron Bridge) on the map is approximate. You can start at the parking lot by the Greening Niagara Community Garden, or either of the 2 sets of stairs descending from Gale Crescent – one set is set back between the apartment buildings and the other is to the east of Start Me Up Niagara.
The above photo is of a structure at the loop end of the trail around Dick’s Creek in Centennial Gardens below the Geneva St. overpass. Thank-you to Alan Veale for identifying it as the headgate to control screens on the first and second Welland Canals. Dick’s Creek goes underground at this point. (The screen side is the other side.)
(This headgate was a visual source for the set of Our Country’s Good, dir. David Fancy, designed by David Vivian, Brock University Department of Dramatic Arts, 2005-06 production.)
